Must Know
Insurance Facts and Secrets

There is certainly so much more to insurance than one might think. In this day and age, you don't just run out and get some coverage for yourself and/or family and call it quits. That's where I come in! I hope to guide you through, what can be difficult to navigate, the muddy waters we call insurance policies.

health insurance policy

The reality of the matter, is that each company represented in the marketplace will have dozens of policies to choose from and dozens of variations of the same. Each one with those dreaded exclusions that we all seem to kinda glance at when signing on the dotted line...but never seem to get around to actually reading through. Those exclusions contain a wealth of information that most insurance companies would rather you not know.

Take a college student health insurance plan for an example...I've seen exclusions contain so many loop holes for the insurance companies benefits, that it would take a day just to read through them all.

Beware: Common Health Insurance Exclusions

Another example: Here are some common family health insurance exclusions that buyers might not know are NOT covered when they purchase the policy.

  • Health Care at Home: Just because the ability is there, doesn't mean your company will go for it.
  • Eye Care: Major exclusion in most policies.
  • Dental Care: Excluded often, but cheap to purchase.
  • Behavioral Problems: ADHD, ADD, Dyslexia. A big item to know up front.
  • Hearing Care: Tons of companies choose not to cover this.
  • Cosmetic Surgery: All depends on what type. Most will not cover "youthful" surgeries, but will cover reconstruction type procedures.

Side Note

As you might know (but we all seem to ignore this rule), at the time of shopping is the best time to read through your policy and it's exclusions. If something doesn't seem right, question the company. If you don't like the answer...move on to the next insurer.

My Hope

My goal on this site is to call your attention to items, that you might otherwise overlook, when shopping for anything from: cheap travel health insurance to some type of pet health insurance company. There are lots of terrific names to go with, but just because the price is right...doesn't mean you are getting what you think or want. Use this site to jog your memory of things that you want/need covered. Make lots of notes and do your due diligence. Pre-purchase planning is always the way to go!!

Good Luck!!
